Corrupt Global & Experimental Files

Have you ever logged on and have the vnmr screen look funny or incomplete?
Have you joined an experimental area and then could not load any parameters into it?

If either of these two things happen to you then you need to replace a file in your vnmrsys directory. If it is just the acqi button missing, you should only need to reboot the console but if a whole row of buttons are missing then your global file is corrupt. If you can't load parameters into an experimental area, it means that the experimental directory is corrupt. Not to worry, there is a fast and simple solution to get you up and running plus you can get a little Unix learning in also. In order to get back to work just follow these simple steps.

Type the command vnmrexit to close the vnmr window but not log you out.
Open a Unix shell (right click in the background area).
Type cd vnmrsys and then ls -al. You will see a list of files and directories including global, global.backup, and exp1 - 6.
To fix your global file you type cp global.back global. Be sure not to get the files reversed or you are out of luck until a NMR staff member can help you.
To correct a corrupt experimental area you type (using exp1 as the corrupt directory) rm -r exp1 to delete the experiment one directory and then cp -r exp2 exp1 to copy the experiment two directory and name the copy exp1.
Type exit to leave the Unix shell and right click again on the background selecting vnmr software this time.
The vnmr shell should now appear with all buttons, whistles, and gizmos.
