The i500 C13 problem has been fixed. Both H1 and C13 work very well. Enjoy high sensitivity of the 500.
i500 problem: low sensitivity of C13
i500 currenly has a hardware problem (likely a damaged broadband preamplifier) which significantly reduces C13 sensitivity. Troubleshooting and repair will be taken at early next week. At this time, users are recommended to use i400 or vxr400 for C13 spectrum measurements. The i500 can still be used for H1 detected experiments (routine 1D H1 spectra, 2D COSY, NOESY, HMQC, HSQC, HMBC, etc.) with no performance loss.
nmrsun5 uses vxrlj as default printer
The default printer for the nmrsun5 computer has been changed to vxrlj (the printer next to the vxr400), which is closer than sun2lj to this computer.
i400 cooling system back working
The FTS cooling system is back working.
Please keep in mind that the cooler unit of this system should be turned on ONLY when you run low temperature experiments and must be turned off after you finish your low temperature work. DO NOT have the cooler turned on when working at high temperature (above room temperature).
i400 cooling system stops working
The FTS cooling system on the i400 stops working and has been powered off. As a result, low temperature function on the i400 is not available until the system gets fixed. High temperature function still works.
VnmrJ2.3A Reference book available online
Do you know that VnmrJ has about 3250 commands, macros, and parameters available? No way one can memorize even a fraction of these, even for experienced users, not to mention for a VnmrJ beginner. I found out that the VnmrJ 2.3A Command and Parameter Reference is available now on the Agilent website. No account or passward is necessary to download that 691 pages book (12 Mb) containing commands, macros, and parameters from A to Z.
It is available here.
Please take advantage of the excellent tutorials already available under Training and Guides on our NMR lab website. If you want to search about any VnmrJ parameter or command, the reference book would come handy.
Spectrometers Back Running
The air dryer problem is fixed. All the spectrometers are up running.
Chemistry Spectrometers Down
The four Chemistry spectrometers are temporarily down as we have a problem with the lab air dryer.
DOSY
We can run the DOSY experiment at IU. This is the pseudo 2D diffusion correlated experiment giving 1D spectra on one axis (typically 1H) and self diffusion coefficient on the other. The major application is effectively separating proton spectra of mixture components by molecular size.
To acquire DOSY data the gradient strength in a 1D PFGSE diffusion experiment is arrayed. We have the current best pulse sequences, DgsteSL_cc and Doneshot.
The key to DOSY is processing. Mestrenova includes novel DOSY processing that works well, Mnova DOSY, or you can use the free DOSY Toolbox that contains the better known methods.
A related 1D diffusion guide is at the bottom of: IU Training/Guides
